About

Born and raised in Maryland, Larisa began to pursue her studies in portraiture under the guidance of Maryland-based artist and former Cape School graduate, Abigail McBride. In 2018, she was accepted into the Advanced Fine Art Program at Studio Incamminati School for Contemporary Realist Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded by the renowned and late figurative artist, Nelson Shanks (1937-2015).

An ardent lover of works by Abbott Handerson Thayer, Andrew Wyeth, Antonio Mancini, Kathe Kollwitz, and Ilya Reppin, additional artistic influences include the beauty and design of Art Nouveau, 19th century drawing, painting, and photography, and the Golden Age illustrators with inspiration drawn from ancient myth and folklore.

Turning to the old masters for a deeper understanding of a larger technical framework, Larisa aims to marry the technical narrative with an undercurrent of universal feeling. Her work is an ongoing exploration of humanity, heightened by a sensitivity of the natural world.

Larisa currently resides in Easton, Maryland located on the Eastern Shore.

"Whether it’s a figure, portrait, or a natural subject, I tend to initially grapple with the question, "What is being communicated through the rhythmical quality and inherent beauty of these forms?" The foundation of this silent, humble communion often forms the basis of which anything tangible might hope to derive."
